Thulium Laser in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro

There is little point in restoring contour and firmness if the skin itself — the surface everyone sees — remains dull, blotchy and uneven. The thulium laser is the finishing tool of the treatment plan: it works on skin quality, renewing the surface and stimulating collagen in the dermis, with the practical advantage of a short recovery.

What is thulium laser?

The thulium laser (1927 nm) is a non-ablative fractional laser with a high affinity for water in the skin: it creates renewal microcolumns in the epidermis and superficial dermis without vaporizing the surface.

In practice, that means treating dark spots, photoaging, texture, pores and fine lines with only mild redness and flaking for a few days — instead of the long recoveries of traditional ablative lasers.

It is also used to enhance the penetration of active ingredients (laser-assisted drug delivery) in specific protocols.

Who is the thulium laser for?

  • Dark spots and photoaging (accumulated sun damage).
  • Uneven texture, enlarged pores and dull skin.
  • Fine lines and overall skin quality.
  • Melasma, within a specific, carefully managed protocol.
  • Those who want skin renewal without long downtime.

How the treatment works

  1. Skin assessment

We analyze your skin type, concerns (dark spots, texture, pores) and history — including melasma, which requires its own protocol. The session plan is built from there.

  2. Session

With topical anesthetic, the session takes around 20 to 30 minutes. The sensation is one of localized heat, generally well tolerated.

  3. Recovery and series

Redness and fine flaking for 2 to 5 days, with makeup allowed within a few days. The typical protocol is 2 to 4 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Results and how long they last

More even skin tone, refined texture, less noticeable pores and glow — the kind of improvement that shows on bare skin.

The result builds across the session series and evolves for weeks after each one. Maintenance (usually annual) and daily sun protection are what sustain the improvement — without sunscreen, the damage that prompted the treatment simply comes back.

Aftercare

  • Strict sun protection before and after treatment — non-negotiable.
  • No exfoliation or acids in the first week, unless instructed otherwise.
  • Reinforced hydration during flaking.
  • Avoid intense heat (sauna, direct sun) in the first few days.

Frequently asked questions about thulium laser

What does the thulium laser treat?

Skin quality: dark spots, photoaging, uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and dullness. Under strict criteria, it can also be part of melasma management.

How many days of downtime does the thulium laser have?

Usually 2 to 5 days of redness and fine flaking — much shorter than traditional ablative lasers. You can get back to your social routine quickly, with makeup allowed within a few days.

Does the thulium laser work for melasma?

It can be part of a melasma management protocol, always with strict criteria — melasma is a chronic condition that requires combined care (strict sun protection, at-home actives) and realistic expectations: it is controlled, not "cured."
